This morning I found an egg with a coating that is fairly thick . It is like a thick membrane (that has dried) and has a very fine grit all over it. It was on the floor under their roost. I will take a picture when I can find where my dh put my camera.
![]() What is it??

Its possibly just excess calcium. That's what gritty shells are. Not sure about the membrain unless there was going to be an egg in an egg .... You sure its not the thin protective coating on the egg shell that looks powdery when dry?

Is this a new layer or an older one ? New layers have a habit of laying strange eggs.
