Smile Rooster Loves Chicks!

Here I was, all worried about how my roo would do with the new chicks. He has been able to see them since we got them, 3 1/2 weeks or so ago, & has been fine with them, no contact, just able to see them from his cage. So today I got brave & let him out with them, & was ready to pounce on him if he seemed at all threatening towards them. It was great! The tiny chicks strutted right up to him & they just looked at each other. Then all of the sudden the roo pecked, ever so gently at one of the chicks & took off running, with about 15 chicks behind him! One of the chicks caught up with him, pecked him & took off running the other way. Partybird (the roo) ran after the chicks. It turned into a hilarious game of tag! I laughed so hard! He adores the little chicks! Is this the norm?

That's wonderful, how delightful! But......

I still wouldn't leave him alone with them. And as they age the danger will increase. Certainly not for the hens, but the other roos.
